Transsol is a trusted supplier of TfL, we have performed detailed analysis and risk assessments on some of the most sensitive safety critical systems as part of an ongoing programme of reliability centred maintenance that we are undertaking for them.
As a direct result of our involvement it has been possible to significantly extend inspection and maintenance intervals. Resulting in considerable cost reductions and no reduction in safety.
Trip-cocks are fitted at each normal driving position on the majority of London Underground (LU) rolling stock and in conjunction with track mounted train-stops they provide protection against trains passing signals at danger. The combined train-stop/trip-cock system is a standard safety feature installed on the London Underground.
Transsol was commissioned by LUL BCV Nominee Ltd to undertake two objective quantified risk/reliability centred maintenance assessments to consider the effects of extending the historically established testing, inspection and maintenance intervals on both train borne trip-cocks and trackside trainstops.
The analysis showed that the existing daily testing of the train borne trip cocks could be extended to at least 30 day intervals without any degradation in safety or its reliability.
Similarly the analysis demonstrated that the inspection/maintenance interval for the trainstop equipment could be doubled without affecting the safety or reliability of the railway system.
Implementing the recommendations resulting from the assessments will result in significant cost savings to the operator and improved levels of safety to maintenance personnel through less exposure to the hazardous environments in which these activities are undertaken.
